Thread on Fabric

Deidre Scherer, “Mother Holding Child”, thread on fabric, 54 x 24 inches

My medium is thread-on-layered-fabric. Using scissors, I draw freely into the color and textured fields of found materials. With machine stitching, I draw, adjoin and define form. Lines of thread build, develop, blend and emphasize contours. This work focuses on transitions as a natural part of life, worthy of reflection.

“…an online photo is not anyway near the actual work of art. I remembered my awe at the intricacy of stitches you use. Well now I can see that daily. Truly phenomenal.”      …Char Osterlund, VT

“I must tell you that your art is a great comfort to me.  I have each of your pieces at the end of a flight of stairs.  The first one, of the two sisters, greets me every morning as I leave my bedroom, and the other greets me as I go into the family room in the evening.  They give me a feeling of peace throughout the day.  I am so glad you have created them and I was able to obtain them.”                                                                     …D. Zagorski
