PHOTOGRAVURE PRINTS

Photogravure is one of the oldest and rarest methods of producing limited edition prints photo mechanically. To make this unique print, Scherer created an image consisting of layers of translucent fabrics sewn together. Her image, which incorporates sheer silk, netting and non-woven synthetic fabric, was used directly as the positive from which the plate was made. Traditionally, photogravures are made using either a photographic film positive or an artist's Mylar drawing. Scherer's print may be the only example of photogravure created in this fashion. "About Roots" and Simple Powers" are both limited additions and are printed on heavy weight Arches printmaking paper.
